Meet Coach Samantha McMinn
As Penn State Wheelchair Basketball Camp approaches, Coach Samantha McMinn is helping build the next generation of adaptive athletes.
Samantha McMinn started playing wheelchair basketball at age six with the Bennett Blazers, where she gained experience playing multiple positions. That early start turned into a five-year collegiate career at the University of Arizona, where she competed on both academic and athletic scholarships. She served as team captain of the women's wheelchair basketball team and earned multiple Academic All-American honors.
Today, Samantha is helping build the Penn State Adaptive Athletics program as Assistant Wheelchair Basketball Coach. In this role, she supports athlete development, recruitment, and program growth. Through coaching and advocacy, Samantha remains dedicated to advancing adaptive sports and empowering the next generation of wheelchair basketball athletes.
After wrapping up her first season as coach, Samantha is now turning her attention to one of the program’s next opportunities: Penn State Wheelchair Basketball Camp.

Penn State Wheelchair Basketball Camp: July 19–21
Registration is open now. This is a great opportunity for young athletes to learn the game from a coach and former team captain who grew up in the sport and went on to compete at the college level
Samantha’s story reflects what Rise Above is working to build at Penn State: athletes who have the opportunity to compete, grow, lead, and one day give back to the next generation. Your support through Rise Above helps provide the coaching, camps, travel, equipment, and programs that allow adaptive athletes to keep growing at Penn State.
