Rise Above Athletes Set Records as National Competition Approaches
Penn State Adaptive Athletics had a strong week at the GLASA Great Lakes Games in Illinois this June.
From June 3 to June 7, Max Malec, Lucas Resch, and Esther-Faith Henn competed at the GLASA Games near Chicago. Together, the three athletes brought home medals in track and field events, with season bests, personal records, and a new GLASA Games meet record among the highlights
Lucas Resch
Lucas took first place and broke a GLASA Games meet record in the F63 shot put with a throw of 11.32 meters (37'1"), besting his own record from the Tri-State Games just two weeks earlier. He also posted a discus throw of 31.54 meters (103 '5 "), a season best and personal record.
Max Malec
Max took second in shot put and first in javelin. His shot put throw of 7.76 meters (25'5") was a season best and personal record. His javelin throw of 18.29 meters (60'), also a season best and personal record, was good enough for the win.
Esther-Faith Henn
Esther-Faith took second in the 1500 meter and third in both the 400 meter and 800 meter races. Her times reflect real improvement across the board, including a 10-second improvement in the 800m (2:58.36) and nearly 1 minute, 20 seconds faster in the 1500m, (down from a previous best of 7:02).
What's Next
Max, Lucas, and Esther-Faith are all headed to The Hartford Nationals conducted by Move United in Grand Rapids, Michigan, July 10-16.
Lucas and teammate Jack Cunningham have also qualified for the USATF Para National Championships in New York City, July 23-26. Lucas will compete in shot put, and Jack will compete in the 100m and 400m.
